People always ask me how I came up with idea for Pet Celebrations. The story is rooted in my family history. During the 1950s, my uncle Gil was a veterinarian and my Aunt Lee was a registered dietician. He would come home and tell my aunt about the stomach disorders he saw in the dogs he treated. This inspired her to develop a canine biscuit, using wholesome natural ingredients, that was healthy, easy to digest and tasty.
Now comes my story. In 1995, after spending many years in fashion retailing, I decided to do something different. I designed a line of biscuits using my aunts recipe and creative theme packaging, and started baking them at home. By 1999, I could no longer meet the demand at home, so I set up a bakery and hired two employees. Now we have five employees and have expanded to fill our entire building!
Our manufacturing facility also features a retail storefront operation where I try new products, and I offer those I feel will work well in my clients stores. I guess I will always have the retail side in my blood. Oh, and Aunt Lee, at an age where many have retired, runs a boutique pet shop in the Detroit area, and I still consult with her over new ideas and flavor combinations.
